Shore & Pier Fishing Without a Boat
Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties, Southwest Florida. Several piers here were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Ian and still haven't reopened. This list says so plainly rather than sending you to a closed pier. Status below was checked directly against county and city sources on August 3, 2026; anything we couldn't confirm is marked unconfirmed instead of guessed. Call ahead: access rules and hours change.
Realistic from these spots: snook off the bridges and passes, redfish on the flats and seawalls, mangrove snapper around any piling, and spotted seatrout where you can reach grass. Tarpon are catchable from a few of these on the right tide. Red snapper and gag grouper are not — those are boat fisheries and the guides say so.

Sanibel Causeway Islands (Causeway Islands Park)
OpenOpen. Phase 1 reopened May 2025 with parking and portable restrooms on Islands A and B; Phase 2 amenities were expected through 2026.
- What to target
- Snook and sheepshead around the causeway rock revetment and bridge pilings; Spanish mackerel and jacks working bait in open water.
- Access / parking
- Pull-in parking directly on Island A (just past the toll bridge) and Island B (past the second bridge). No dedicated fishing pier; fish from the rocks or shoreline.
- Fee
- Causeway toll: $6 inbound with a transponder, $9 inbound without one. No charge to leave the island. No separate parking fee at the islands.

- Florida saltwater fishing license required for shore fishing.
Fort Myers Beach Pier
ClosedClosed. Destroyed by Hurricane Ian in September 2022 and still not rebuilt. Lee County awarded a design contract in 2026, but no construction start date has been announced. Don’t plan a trip around it.

- Nothing. There’s no pier standing to fish from.

Matanzas Pass Bridge Fishing Pier
OpenOpen. This is a separate, smaller concrete pier under the Matanzas Pass Bridge, not the destroyed beach pier above, with sections on both the mainland and Fort Myers Beach sides.

- Snook, tarpon, mangrove snapper, and jack crevalle holding on the bridge pilings and current line.
- Access / parking
- 700 Fishermans Wharf, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931. Open 7 AM to dusk daily. Small free parking lot on the mainland side; spaces are limited.

- Free to fish.

- Florida saltwater fishing license required; check FWC for the shoreline-angler resident exemption before assuming it applies to you.
Cape Coral Yacht Club Fishing Pier
ClosedClosed. Rebuild design is complete, but the project is stuck waiting on Army Corps of Engineers and environmental permitting as of mid-2026. No construction start date announced.

- Yacht Club Community Park, 5819 Driftwood Pkwy, Cape Coral. The park and beach area may be accessible even though the pier itself is not. Call ahead.

Bunche Beach Preserve (San Carlos Bay)

- Seatrout, redfish, and snook over the grass flats; sheepshead around the piers and pilings.
- Access / parking
- 18201 John Morris Rd, Fort Myers, FL 33908. Open dawn to dusk, 7 days a week. Two piers/docks plus wade-accessible shoreline flats.

Lovers Key State Park
OpenOpen daily.
- What to target
- Trout, redfish, and snook in the back bay; tarpon seasonally; mullet in the bay year-round.
- Access / parking
- Reach the water via boardwalk from the park’s parking lots (Mid-Beach Wood Bridge, roughly 1,000 ft; South Beach Concrete Bridge, roughly 1/2 mile). Open 8 AM to sunset year-round. Fishing gear rentals available on site.

- Standard Florida state park vehicle entrance fee applies; confirm the current rate at floridastateparks.org before you go.

Big Carlos Pass Bridge
ClosedClosed to fishing. The existing bridge sits inside an active construction zone for a new fixed-span replacement. The finished project is planned to include a new fishing pier, but no completion date is confirmed. This one’s off the list until it reopens.

Naples Pier
ClosedClosed and under full reconstruction. The Ian-destroyed pier was demolished starting January 2026 as part of a $23.5 million rebuild, with the city’s own timeline targeting July 2027 completion. Beyond that timeline the status is unconfirmed, so call the city before assuming otherwise.

Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park
OpenOpen daily; access closes early if the parking lot fills.
- What to target
- Fishing is concentrated at the north end of the park near the pass, and off the dock at the boat launch.
- Access / parking
- 11135 Gulfshore Dr, Naples, FL. Open 8 AM–6 PM daily.

- $6 per vehicle admission; $5 additional to use the boat ramp.

Naples shore access (Gordon Pass area)
Status UnconfirmedStatus unconfirmed, call ahead. No single official city page confirms current parking or access rules for this stretch; treat the description below as general orientation, not a verified access point.

- Gordon Pass, where Naples Bay meets the Gulf at the south end of town, is commonly cited by local anglers as a productive walk-and-cast spot along the jetties.

- Reached via the beach south of the Naples Pier/downtown area. No dedicated parking lot confirmed; check the City of Naples Parks & Recreation site for current beach access rules before you go.

Caxambas Park (Marco Island)

Gilchrist Park (Punta Gorda)

Ponce de Leon Park (Punta Gorda)

Boca Grande / Gasparilla Island Fishing Pier
ClosedThe pier and its approach walkway remain fenced off and closed to the public as of this writing. Only the parking area and canoe/kayak launch have reopened. A USACOE permit for repairs was approved June 2026, but no reopening date is confirmed. We’re not calling this a working pier yet.
